BoingBoing reports a live action Smurf movie is in the works with John Lithgow as Papa Smurf. Somethings should just never happen – this monstrosity in the making is one of them.

I’m thinking of forwarding the following to Sony Pictures. For Gargamel’s sake, please join me.

Dear Sony Movie Executives,

Please stop taking rotten ideas from my childhood and making bad movies of them. A live action Smurf movie is an awful idea. They idea of lots of little blue dudes with one girl was creepy enough in cartoon form. I don’t want to imagine it with real life actors. And John Lithgow as Papa Smurf? He’s never been funny. Did the Blue Man Group turn you down?

Seriously, nobody wants to watch this crap. (Remember Land of the Lost? I’m still having nightmares.)

Yahoo Go is a Goner

Back in 2006 – before iPhones, app stores, and Google WebApps – there was Yahoo! Go. The ahead of its time application provided access to email, weather and Yahoo! search from a cell phone. Yahoo announced today it will shut down Yahoo! Go on January 12, 2010.

Yahoo introduced the service at the 2006 Consumer Electronic Show and has since released three updates. No updates have been released since January 2008 as the company has focused on its Web portal and streamlining its mobile Web offerings.

Yahoo’s mobile optimized website offers most of Yahoo! Go’s features and adds instant messaging and social networking connectivity.

Yahoo! Go users will receive the following email tomorrow:

Dear Yahoo! Go user,Yahoo! Go will be discontinued on January 12, 2010, at 12:00 a.m. PST, so that we may focus on simplifying and enhancing your future mobile Web experiences. After this date, you will no longer be able to use Yahoo! Go 2.0 or 3.0 from your mobile phone. Evernote Raises $10 Million

Evernote, the popular multi-platform note taking service based in Mountain View, announced today that they had raised $10 Million in new funding. The Series B round was lead by Morgenthaler Ventures who has previously invested in NextTag, LendingClub, Synopsys, NEXTEL, and Verifone. This is in addition to $6.5 Million the company had raised previously.

In a Nov. 16th New York Times article, Evernote CEO Phil Libin says the company plans to use the money to expand to more platforms and move beyond the United States and Russia to Europe and Japan.
